ENGAGING THE POWER OF PRAYER AND FASTING FOR SUPERNATURAL BREAKTHROUGH-PART 3
by Pst Isaac Folaji on 19 Jan 2020
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.”- Isaiah 2:2
We are in the breakthrough days of the church, days when the church of Christ is enthroned in every facet of life. When we talk about the church, we are talking about the worshippers (Micah.4:1-3). 1st Corinthians 3:9 validates this truth by referring to us as God’s building, and as such, we are ordained to be on top (Isaiah 2:2). We are in the days of attractions in the church when people will come on their own, without being asked, when our mockers will become our followers.
However, for any prophecy to come to pass, fasting coupled with prayer is a must because it is a channel for empowerment. When we engage in it, we grow in power and in authority, so much so that nothing refuses us (Matthew 17:21). Though many desire great things, experiences and even greater command, they are unwilling to pay the price. We must understand that there is no free lunch anywhere, not in Christ…not even in Freetown. If you want power and authority to enjoy dignity around your destiny, one of the major prices to pay is the price of fasting, and many are selling off their glorious destinies and breakthrough personalities to their belly.
There are so many things you can never experience in life as a child of God if you do not engage in fasting. Value is a function of cost because, what you are willing to pay determines what you are allowed to take home. So the kind of pleasure and comfort you enjoy in life are determined by the level of price you are ready to pay.
Jesus had to fast even if he had no need of anything. He was born of the Holy Ghost yet he fasted and prayed all night. There are believers that have never attended any all-night prayer session and yet they want to be in command. Brother, you may have been in church for a long time…sister, you may be the leader of a unit in church but, if you do not do what the God’s word says you should do, , if you refuse to practice what is preached, you will remain the same. The enemy knows the gain of fasting, he knows that it can turn dwarfs to giants, trekkers to givers of cars and applicants to employers, that is why he brings excuses not to engage in it, so as to rob people of their glorious destinies in Christ (John 10:10, Revelations 5:12).
Fasting also keeps you consecrated because it keeps you in very close proximity with the Spirit of God, which is the Spirit of obedience. Remember, no one can obey God fully in the energy of the flesh and therefore we require this spirit to help us. Christianity will be Herculean, without the empowerment of the spirit, which answers only to prayer and fasting. When you gain authority and power over those things trying to keep you under then you are free (Romans 1:4). Jesus himself needed the empowerment of God to do the things of the spirit; there is a spirit that enables us to do the will of God and fasting makes that spirit come alive in us, though we may appear physically weak.
Furthermore, prayer and fasting change us, taking us very close to the nature of God (Luke.9:22-29). Thevirtues of God – meekness, love, longsuffering, patience – are transmitted to us, causing us to develop the fruits of the spirit because God is enthroned and self is dethroned when we fast.
PROFITABLE APPROACH TO FASTING
1. We must come reminding God of His word: God’s word is His will. Thank God for fasting, thank God for prayer which gives value to fasting, but for the prayers to deliver answers we must remind God of His word because that is the language he understands.. God closes his ears to whatever is said outside His will, which is His word and so we must speak His word back to him while praying (1st John 5:4). This means that content, rather that volume, is what God responds to in prayer (Isaiah 43:26).
It is like pleading your case before a judge and that is why we have lawyers because they are the ones that speak the language which the judge responds to. Although Jesus is our advocate In the Supreme Court of heaven, you still need to be conversant with the language of the word of God. As you are well aware, winning your case in heaven’s Court guarantees your victory in every other court.
So prepare yourself in the word, taking time to hear, read and study it, so as to become effective in prayer (Hosea 4:6).
2. Engage in praying for the needs of others (Job 42:10): It is wisdom to focus on others. Identify people with the same needs and pray for them, God will answer your own first and then answer your prayers for them. Channels do not lack what they convey and so if you make yourself a channel through which God reaches people, He will ensure that you get yours first. This theory is backed up by the scripture in 2nd Timothy 2:6, which says that the husbandman (caretaker) who labours will be the first to receive the reward. Remember that you don’t lack what you give, you only lack what you keep.
Sow whatever you want as a seed in prayer for others, bearing in mind that whatever you make happen for others, God will make happen for you. You cannot be praying for other people’s breakthrough and be a victim of oppression. When you see a challenged marriage, pray for the couple, do not laugh at them. When you see wounded believers, fallen believers, pray for them, instead of castigating them on social media (Ephesians 6:8;l, Proverbs 11:24-25).
ENCOUNTER WITH DESTINY
Destiny in the kingdom is a lifelong adventure and not a destination . Every child of God is a child of destiny and not permitted to live like a destitute . We have an unlimited destiny in Christ.( Proverbs 4:18)
Every genuine encounter with God’s word is an encounter with destiny and every genuine encounter with God opens up a new destiny. No one is too old to encounter destiny. Abraham encountered destiny at 75 . (Genesis 12:1-3). Prior to that time, a married seventy-five-year-oldAbraham wasstill squatting in his father’s house. His story changed, regardless of his age, when he encountered the God who can do all things. So nobody or foundation is too old to be repaired by God (Romans 8:29-30).
WHAT TO DO TO ENCOUNTER DESTINY
1. Be spiritual and spiritually sensitive: Roman 8:6 says to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Though we are created to operate like God, carnality reduces our operation to that of mere men. In 1st Corinthians 3, from verse 1, Paul said, “And I, brethren could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. Why? “I have fed you with milk…For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
Paul was trying to say that certain messages could not be relayed because the people’s carnality will hinder their understanding, without which full spiritual potential cannot be realised. Lack of spirituality will erode our access to our enviable destiny. For example; keeping malice, walking in unforgiveness, bitterness ,anger, backbiting ,hatred etc will rob you of your spirituality.
2. Love God and be prayerful : Keep loving God. The secret of God are revealed to His lovers. Let your love for God be hot. When you love God, you will love what He loves. God loves souls. Loving God means keeping His commandments, as Jesus states in John 14:21. The result of this is that lovers of God will be loved by God and will enjoy manifestations of God’s performance in their life. Remember, all things work to the good of those who love God and what He has reserved for them is beyond this world (Romans 8:28, Corinthians 2:9). Keep loving God, and as you do, divine secrets will be revealed to you.
Remain Ever Blessed!!!! Jesus is Lord!!!
